The 30 Day Blogging Challenge
Everything was in tatters.
The content calendar for the football blog was aeons behind schedule. At the same time I was burdened with how to begin the a new project which was bound to suck all the content I had in me.
This raged for months. My partner even asked me point-blank if I still believed in the football blog. My weekends was chock-a-block with tasks I had volunteered for. I didn’t have time for myself over the weekends.
I started planning a comeback.
It was either I froze every other commitment and faced what bothered me or find a way to juggle everything without bulldozing the china shop.
I didn’t know what to do.
Luckily or by providence I came across Hiten Shah’s blog. Hiten is the founder of Crazy Egg and the popular KISSmetrics. In the process of skimming through like I always do, I found something. OM Malik, the founder of GigaOM challenged Hiten and two other guys to a 30 day blogging challenge. This was after Matt Mullenweg, founder of Automattic and creator of WordPress was challenged too.
I was awed. These guys are super busy. Running two business above $1M revenue, operating a media company like GigaOM, and overseeing a platform used by 30% of the internet. I was challenged too. So I decided to embark on this same challenge – write everyday for 30 days and publish on my blogs.
I then decided to announce to my BBM contacts. Surprisingly more than a dozen of my friends accepted the challenge that started yesterday to end on May 10th. The response has been awesome. Before dusk, more that a third of the group have published their day’s quota of writing. There were more posts to be shared in the group before the end of the day.
I am very positive that this will improve the writing skills of every member in the group. I am glad I shared it with them. Hopefully, I would be able to shake off my writer’s block, become the writing machine that I want to be, and come closer to what people call “a writer”.
